The Journey of Life for Sister Alice Flynn King Nijman began on May 2, 1926 and ended on October 1, 2021. The oldest of five children, she was born in Pantego, North Carolina to the late Dewey and Mary Brown Flynn.

She received her formative education at the former Beaufort County High School, Pantego, NC. At the age of thirteen her family relocated to Brooklyn, New York where she received a high school diploma from Girls High School in Brooklyn. She also attended the Roberts School of Beauty Culture in Brooklyn and became a licensed beautician which she found very rewarding. She also completed coursework in the Culinary Arts in Albany, New York.

At the age of ten she was baptized at the Macedonia Church of Christ in Pantego. She attended New Hope Baptist Church in Brooklyn, Ny for thirty years.

While living in New York, she became a member of Order of the Eastern Star.

United in Holy Matrimony to the late Leroy King in 1946, this union lasted until his death on November 7, 1967. To this union, 5 children were born, three of whom preceded her in death, Gary, Steven and Janeen King.

She was later nited in Holy Matrimony to the late Deacon Albert Nijman on July 1, 1976. This union lasted until his death on August 20, 2017.

Retiring in 1979, Sis. Nijman and Deacon Nijman relocated to Pantego, North Carolina in 1985 and became members of St. Redick Missionary Baptist Church. She served as a member of the Senior Choir and as secretary for the Watch Care Committee.

As her vision became impaired, she remained faithful in attendance and was often accompanied by her brother and one of her sons, both deceased, on a regular basis. She was later accompanied by her youngest son.

She is survived by 2 children: Janelle King of Angier, NC; and Carlton King of the home; four stepchildren; Vita (Lloyd) Derricott of Fredericksburg, VA; Albert (Doris) Nyman, Jr of Oceanside, CA; Alan (Evelyn) Nyman of Brooklyn, NY; and Rose (Vincent) Nyman Rosser of Atlanta, GA; ten grandchildren, a devoted granddaughter, Lezanne Wilson Harrison (Andre) of Prince George, VA; Renita King, Shanquay King, Desiree King, Sunday Simmons, Steven King, Maurice King, Lamar King, Ronell King and Benjamin Simmons.

A celebration of life service will be held 12:00 pm, Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Joseph B. Paul, Jr. & Washington Funeral & Cremation.
