Barbara Brinn Mason, age 85, a resident of Bath, NC, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, 2:00pm at the St. Clair’s Church of Christ, officiated by David Mason and Craig Hagen. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the St. Clair’s Church Family Life Center.

She was born in Beaufort County on October 11, 1936 to the late Jatha and Lucy Grey Brinn. She was the beloved wife of Jack Arliss Mason whom she would have celebrated 70 years of marriage in October.

Along with her parents she is preceded in death by two sisters: Angelia Brinn Shackelford and Sue Brinn Conway, and one brother-in-law: Jack Wallace.

She is survived by her husband Jack Mason, a son: Jack “Jay” Mason Jr. and wife Michelle; a daughter: Leigh Ann Clark; a sister: June Brinn Wallace; four grandsons: Ryan Scott Mason and wife Stephanie, Colby Perrion Mason, Alex Clark and wife Sarah, Tyler Clark; two nieces: Jenni Uzzell, Gina Hull; three great-nieces and one great-nephew, as well as a brother-in-law: Chip Shackelford.

She was a member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ for 76 years having served in the choir and Ladies Quartet. She was a member of the St. Clair’s Church of Christ Ladies Aid. She was a charter member of the Pam-Le-Ko Book Club. She was one of those people who firmly believed in the expression If it’s worth doing – it’s worth doing well.

She was filled with love – for her hobbies and for her family, and even for little things like cooking and cleaning. She found a particular joy in running the vacuum when Jack was watching the news. She was crafty, taking Santa Clauses that were made of large chunks of pecan wood and and would spend dozens of hours meticulously painting them; and they were glorious.

She could cook a mean pot of collards and loved keeping her grandchildren. She loved talking and socializing and spending time with friends and family. She loved her family and had a special relationship with each and every one of them.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to St. Clair’s Church of Christ by CLICKING HERE

Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service is honored to be assisting the Mason family in their time of need.

    Charles T Boyd III says:
The Boyd family is so very sorry to hear of cousin Barbara Mason's passing. We didn't get to spend much time together over the years. It was mostly short summer visits to her mom and dad's (Lucy and Jayther Brinn) home. On one occasion (~1970) a family reunion was held at cousin Barbar's and Jack Mason's home on the sound. Boy was that a great time and awesome home-cooked food. The last time we saw each other was at Angle's funeral. May the peace of our Lord be with the family during these sad days. Love to all, Charles (Chuck) T. Boyd III, grandson of Rose Waters Boyd, great-nephew to Lucy Water Brinn, and cousin to Barbara Brinn Mason. PS: Mom, Nancy Boyd, 91 years old, is doing well in assisted living.

    Margie Cooke-Tankard says:
What an amazing video of a life well lived. LeAnn, Jay & Michelle, Mrs.June & other family members I send my heartfelt condolences to each of you. During the 33 years of living in the community and having family there in the Gaylord's Bay area (Kelly Rd.)and attending St.Clair Church for Bible Schools, etc., Mrs. Barbara was so kind and willing to stop and welcome you. I honestly can't remember a time seeing her and Mr.Jack that they didn't have time to chant a spell. She was a very compassionate lady whom I'm positive was so happy to see so many of her loved ones that have gone before her, the celebration of eternal life. Savor the many memories of her and know that she is rejoicing in the fields of heaven. ❤

The greatest love story I have ever known is God’s gift of our Lord Jesus Christ. The second one is the one of Jack and Barbara. What a love story!! They were such a devoted, loving couple and such good role models for young people. Precious memories are God’s legacy of love. May the shared memories bring comfort to the family in the days ahead.
