Carl Edward Blackburn age 78, a resident of Washington, NC died at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 27, 2019.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at Washington Assembly of God officiated by Rev. Gary Bateman and Pastor Daniel Haskett.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until the service hour. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Carl was born on February 11, 1941 the son of the late George Silas Blackburn and Beatrice Thompson Blackburn. He and his wife Faye owned and operated Down East Garment Company makers of sportswear in Belhaven, NC for sixteen years. After retiring from the sportswear industry he became a commercial fisherman, where he and his wife enjoyed the beauty of the water and hard work of commercial fishing on their boat the ” Capt.Carl ” which he continued doing until his health wouldn’t allow. Even though he had to retire from the commercial side of fishing, Carl as his family quoted ” loved fishing, fishing and fishing ” and would fish whenever he had a chance and felt up to it. He had a strong love for his family and will be greatly missed by them and all that knew him.
Carl is survived by his wife: Faye Hockaday Blackburn of Washington, NC; four daughters: Vonda Moore and husband Frankie of Eastover, NC; Yvonne White and husband Joseph of Sneads Ferry, NC; Lori Ipock of Washington, NC; Chris Buck of Washington, NC; a brother: Bobby Blackburn of Lumberton, NC; fourteen grandchildren and twenty five great-grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by three sons: Robert Blackburn, Ricky Blackburn, Dwayne Blackburn and a brother: George Blackburn.
