Cecil Ray Leggett, born on July 24, 1953, in Washington, NC to the late Marshall and Kathleen Leggett left this world on September 19, 2023, at the place he cherished most – home. Cecil lived a remarkable life of 70 years which may seem a long time to many, but to those who loved him, it was not enough time.

Cecil was a true Jack of all trades and spent many hours fixing or finishing anything that needed his special touch, He also loved crabbing and embraced the challenges and rewards that came with the job. His interests were as varied as his skills, from the roaring engines of Harley Davidson Motorcycles to the vastness of the ocean and the exhilaration of being outdoors or on the water.

His spirited nature and happy-go-lucky demeanor spread joy to everyone around him. Cecil had a kind heart, always there when you needed him, ready to lend a helping hand or offer support without hesitation. Although mischievous in his own unique way, he loved to playfully tease his family members, which added a special spark to their relationships.

A true daredevil at heart, Cecil feared nothing and approached life’s adventures with courage and fearlessness. Whether it was climbing new heights or taking on thrilling challenges, he embraced every opportunity without hesitation, proving that he truly lived life to the fullest.

No one could deny that Cecil was someone you could rely on. He would give the shirt off his back to help a friend or family member in need. In fact, he was the youngest of nine children, cherishing his role as the baby of the family and cultivating strong bonds with those he loved.

Cecil leaves to cherish his memory his fiancée Catherine, brother; Wayne (Patricia) Leggett, sister; Dorothy Geraldine Dixon, along with many extended family members.

To Catherine, his beloved fiancée, he was her whole world, and their love was evident in every moment they shared. Together, they created countless memories that will forever hold a cherished place in their hearts.

Services to honor Cecil’s life will be held at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral home. A visitation will take place on Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 6pm to 8pm, providing an opportunity for family and friends to come together and celebrate the remarkable life he lived.

Cecil Ray Leggett will be remembered as a beacon of light, inspiring those around him with his joyous spirit and kind soul. Though he may no longer be physically present, the memories he made and the impact he had on others will endure, forever reminding us of the extraordinary person he was.

With Cecil’s unexpected departure, his family is facing both emotional and financial burdens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family to assist them by CLICKING HERE.

Joseph B. Paul Jr. is honored to be assisting the Leggett family.

    Kayla Leggett says:
Uncle Cecil, I wish I had got to know you better and I know you were an amazing uncle to my dad Greg. I hope that you had a peaceful transition and that you and my daddy are having a few beers up there together. Hang in there about the fight, we are not giving up and you will see justice from above. I will make sure to check on your love Cathy often for you. Rest in peace, your great niece, Kayla Leggett.

Mother, mother ocean, I have heard you call Wanted to sail upon your waters since I was three feet tall You've seen it all, you've seen it all Watched the men who rode you, switch from sails to steam And in your belly, you hold the treasures few have ever seen Most of 'em dream, most of 'em dream Yes, I am a pirate, two hundred years too late The cannons don't thunder, there's nothin' to plunder I'm an over-forty victim of fate I go for younger women, lived with several a while Though I ran 'em away, they'd come back one day Still could manage to smile Just takes a while, just takes a while.....................................RIP Cecil!
