Cora Lee Cuthrell, age 82, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023, in Beaufort County, NC. She was born on April 24, 1941, in Beaufort County, NC, to Catherine Elizabeth Cuthrell and Stonewall Cuthrell, Sr.
Cora tried her hand as a seamstress and a beautician before finding her true calling as a nurse’s aid. She dedicated her life to this noble profession, working the night shift for most of career. Cora’s commitment and compassion made a positive impact on the lives of countless patients.
In addition to caring for others, Cora had a deep love for gardening, as well as chickens and small farm animals. She found solace and joy in nurturing her plants and tending to her beloved animals.
Born on the “Cotton Gin” Farm, Cora’s roots remained firmly planted in her hometown. She never lived more than five miles away from where she was born. However, Cora was a family-oriented woman who traveled extensively to keep close ties with her loved ones. She regularly journeyed from her home to Winston-Salem, Virginia, Georgia, and Florida to be near her family.
Cora is survived by her two brothers, Stonewall “Jackie” Cuthrell, Jr. of Pantego, NC and Floyd (Carolyn) Cuthrell of Panama City, FL, as well as her sister, Elizabeth Cuthrell of Alfredo, GA. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be treasured by her family and friends.
To honor Cora’s wishes, no services will be held. In reflecting on her life, Cora once shared, “I can look back and know that I loved my job. It was very satisfying to be able to go home from work each night feeling like I accomplished something.” She will be remembered for her selflessness, dedication, and the love she showed to all those around her.
Throughout her life, Cora Lee embodied compassion, kindness, and a spirit of generosity. In honor of her memory and to continue her legacy of giving back to the community, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either of these two organizations that were close to her heart: the Pantego Volunteer Fire Department and the Sheppard Cancer Center.
