Darnella “Nellie” Walker Barber age 65, a resident of 215 Moonlight Lake Drive Lot # 12, New Bern, NC died at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, July 31, 2019.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
Nellie was born in Craven County on November 14, 1953 the daughter of the late Jesse Linwood Walker and Evelyn Voliva Walker.
She is survived by a daughter: Angela Renee Barber of Aurora, NC; two sisters: Katy Stilley of Aurora, NC; Brenda Turnage of Bayboro, NC and five grandchildren: Barry McNinch, Avery McNinch, Dylan Ward, Hope Barber and Layna Barber. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a son: Roger Dale Barber, Jr., and two brothers: Jesse Richard Walker and Hal Duffy Walker.

    To Katy, I'm so sorry to see the passing of Nellie. I hadn't seen her, or you for that matter since we graduated. She was always a character. You all were the first and last ones I picked up and dropped off on my bus route. I guess that leaves just you. I've lost all but Jamie, who lives in Hawaii. I'd like to see you sometime and reminisce about those days with you, Nellie, HD, and Dickie.
