Eleanor Gurganus Humphrey, age 85, passed away on October 6, 2023, in Bath, NC. She was born on September 16, 1938.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward Humphrey, her father, Lewis Edward Gurganus, her mother, Media Gurganus, and her siblings: Edna G. Elks, Selma Harden, Charlotte Biggs, Glenn Gurganus, Grace Spencer, Naomi Alligood, and Marvin Modlin. She was also preceded in death by her nieces: Eve E. Parker and June Elliott; nephews Greg Alligood and Marvin Modlin Jr.

Eleanor is survived by her loving daughter, Debra Woolard and husband Keenan, her siblings: Kent Gurganus and Betty Lou Elliott. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A Memorial Service to honor Eleanor’s life will be held at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service in Washington, NC, on Saturday, October 14, 2023. The visitation will take place from 10:00am to 11:00am, followed by the service from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the D.A.R.T Team c/o Kent Gurganus, 243 Bowen Rd, Bath, NC 27808, the Salvation Army, or the charity of your choice.
