It was on August 5, 1938 in Blounts Creek, NC that Flora Lee Keyes was born to the late Thelma Green and Romes Keyes.
On Sunday, March 14, 2021 she died at the home of her cousin, Jasper Moore in Blounts Creek, NC.
Flora attended school in Florence, NC and S.W. Snowden Elementary School in Aurora, NC. She graduated from S.W. High School in 1956. She attended NC Central University in which she earned her Bachelor & Masters Degrees in Home Economics.
She joined Reedy Branch African Methodist Zion Church in Blounts Creek, NC at an early age and remained a delegated member until her death.
Flora loved her church and served in several capacities: Chairman of the Stewart Board, Class Leader No. 1, President of the Lay Council, Choir President and a member of the Deaconess Board. She was also an active member of the Washington District. Flora served as the vice-president and president of the Washington District Lay Council and sang in the Washington District Choir. Flora retired from the Wake County Public School System (Fuquay-Varina High School) after teaching for 35 years. She loved her God, her church, family and students.
She leaves to mourn her two sisters: Evelyn and Gloria Keyes, sister-in-love, Louise Ushry, two nieces: Demetria Williams and Caroline Atwater, one nephew: Calvin Ushry, Jr. and a host of relatives and friends.
The family would like to give thanks to Dewey & Shirley Stokes, Johnnie Moore, Alexis Moore, Jasper Moore, Juanita Wainwright, Angel Sprouse, London Sprouse and anyone else who helped us during Flora’s illness.
