George William Kent III, born on September 17, 1944, in Newport News, VA, peacefully passed away at home on January 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 79 years old.
George led a remarkable life filled with love, dedication, and a genuine passion for everything he did. His work experience included a successful career in construction, where he showcased his skills and commitment to excellence. George also proudly served in the U.S. Navy, demonstrating his unwavering loyalty to his country.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, George’s true joy came from spending time with his beloved wife Pattie, whom he affectionately serenaded until she finally agreed to go out with him. Their love story spanned over four decades, serving as a beautiful example of devotion and commitment.
As a father, George was absolutely dedicated to his children and his grandchildren. He cherished attending their various events and took immense pride in their accomplishments. His sons, Anthony George (Chris), Scott, and Ryan (Sarah), and daughters Megan Kent, Lindsay Encarnacion (Nestor), and Shelley Coyne (Jesse), were the light of his life. George adored his 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with another one on the way; and found immense joy in showering them with love and support.
In his free time, George had a wide range of interests that brought him immense happiness. He loved the adrenaline rush of go-carts and enjoyed the speed and excitement of NASCAR races. George had a passion for singing and country music, showcasing a talent that would uplift everyone around him and melt his wife’s heart.
George is also survived by his brother Woodie and sister Kathy Larrivee. He was also accompanied throughout his later life by his faithful sidekick, Bella the Maltipoo, who brought endless joy and companionship.
George was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Virginia Kent, his father, George William Kent, Jr., and his sisters Judy Taylor and Carolyn Salmon. Their spirits will forever live on in his cherished memories.
A funeral service to celebrate George’s remarkable life will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Home at 11:00 AM officiated by Christopher Bryan. Pallbearers will be his grandsons; A.J. Kent, Jacob Kent, Chad Kent, and Christian Kent, son- in – law; Jesse Coyne, and brother-in-law Dean Taylor. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends and loved ones from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour. The committal ceremony will take place immediately following the funeral at the Oakdale cemetery.
George William Kent leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and inspiration. His unwavering dedication to his family and his warm-hearted nature will continue to be remembered and cherished by all those whose lives he touched. May his soul find eternal peace, knowing his impact on this world was immeasurable.
