Jerome “Jerry” D. Shively age 65, a resident of 441 Union Street, Belhaven, NC died Friday, February, 8, 2019 at his home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
“Equally dedicated to each other, Jerry, at about age 5 or so, was raised by his paternal grandmother, Miss Peggy. First living in DC, then in Hillside, MD. Jerry had many friends, most all of which he had till his last day. He married and had two sons, William (Billy) and Robert (Bob); he loved dearly. He first worked at his father’s auto business till he broke away and learned floor-covering installations; his career until he expanded into small home improvements. Later in life he went to college, achieved high accolades achieving an Associates Degree.
He had many siblings; his closest, Allan and Jenifer Shively. Later in his life, he reconnected with many of his brothers and sisters he had barely known. This also made him happy.
Since his early teens, Jerry was dedicated to music. Rock-n-Roll to be exact. Playing the bass guitar was his passion, as well as writing songs. Playing out in the nightclubs was exciting and invigorating. He loved his music!
Jerry married a second time and became step-father to a daughter, Terri. He was blessed with grandchildren from all three of his kids; including one great-grandchild. From oldest to youngest, the grandchildren: William & Paxton Shively; Celia, Frankie, & Mary Pagliaro; and Noah Shively.
Another passion of Jerry’s was the beach. He adored the sun and the water; strolling along a shore hunting shark’s teeth, always getting a tan to beat all others.’
He was a dog (and later a…cat) lover. They all loved him. Animals couldn’t get enough of Jerry’s attention and he loved giving it right back. He talked gently to them. It was fascinating to listen to him mesmerize them.
He was a very strong man; so healthy, until the growing menace in his lungs took over. Jerry was known for his quirky sense of humor and many times he’d have you believing the absurd. In these last years he despised feeling so weak and helpless. Even in his last hours he was trying to set up his amp and bass to play music. ~~~Forever now, may he play on and on; never having to feel any pain.”
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the End of Life Expenses Fund Raiser located on Jerry’s Facebook page.
