Jo Anne Gregg, 79, of Belhaven, passed away November 4, 2020.

Jo Anne was born in Pitt County to the late Merwin and Mary Hargett Gregg

She is survived by two brothers and one sister: Larry Gregg of Kitzmiller, MD, Ronald Gregg of Jacksonville, NC, and Kathy Gregg of Aurora, CO.

Jo Anne led a challenging life from a young age. She contracted scarlet fever as a young child, which developed into Autism Spectrum Disorder, an often misdiagnosed and misunderstood disorder at that time. Yet, despite her many personal challenges, she was always a hard worker and one of the sweetest people anyone will ever meet. She did not know a stranger and would do whatever she could to help anyone she could. She enjoyed reading and needlework in her spare time and spent many years caring for her parents in their declining years. If there has ever been an angel walking among us, it was Jo Anne.

The family has decided not to hold a memorial service at this time.

In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to make a donation in her name by clicking on Autism Speaks in the top right hand corner of the page.

Until we meet again, Jo Anne, have fun soaring among the stars. We love you.

I remember Joanne from when I was in high school with Ronnie. I also saw her a few times when I visited Autumfield though I don't think she knew me. She was always quiet and pleasant.

    Linda Boyd Mann says:
I remember Joanne, her sister Kathy was my classmate. Joanne always giggled and smiled - always kind. Kathy, I'm so glad that she is not feeling any pain and she's in a better place. Time eases the pain and God will hold you and your family in his loving arms. Hold tight to God's hand and the memories.

I remember Joanne of the sister of Kathy who was my classmate. She was close to her Mother and seemed happy as her health declined. She is now at peace. Time will help heal the sorrows
