Joan Davis Russ, age 81, of Bath, NC passed away peacefully on April 8, 2024. Born in Elizabeth City, NC on July 20, 1942, Joan was a beloved member of her community.

Joan lived a life filled with purpose and love, centered around her devotion to God and her family. Her passions and unwavering dedication left a lasting impact on those she encountered over the years. Beyond her professional endeavors, Joan found solace and fulfillment in simple pleasures like knitting, cooking, and bringing people together through entertaining.

However, amidst all her activities, Joan’s heart truly belonged to her four Grandgirls. They were the source of her greatest joy and inspiration, and she cherished every moment spent with them, creating cherished memories that would endure through the years. Joan’s legacy of faith, love, and family bonds will continue to resonate in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

A faithful member of St. Clair’s Church of Christ, Joan was very active in her church community and found solace in her faith. She leaves behind cherished memories for her surviving family: son Edward (Ed) Russ Jr.(wife Mary Russ), daughter Theresa (Terri) Russ Wilson, grandchildren Sara Hayes (husband Curtis Hayes), Eliza Buchanan (husband Zach Buchanan), Rachel Wilson, Maggie Alvarado (husband Danny Alvarado), and great-grandson Finnegan Russ Buchanan. While she may be gone, Joan’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Visitation for Joan will be held at St. Clair’s Church of Christ on Thursday, April 11 at 1:00pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm. May she rest in peace.

John Colbert and Makayla Brinkley says:
Me and my fiancée cleaned for her for months. She was a very kind, Christ centered woman. She was a joy to work for and I looked forward to seeing her each time we came. Last time we saw her, she told us that it would be a glorious day when she entered Heaven. Warms my heart knowing she is with her Savior, Jesus Christ.

I guess I grew to know and love her as a child when I visited St. Clair's. Sitting next to her once I noticed her Bible with all the tabs. She was able to flip around and keep up. I told Betty Lou about it.... she gave me one that Christmas. God has called another soldier and servant home. What a wonderful lady.
