Kenneth Dale Lumsden, age 73, passed away peacefully in his home of Bath, NC on April 1, 2019 surrounded by his family. Ken was born in Washington, DC on April 19, 1945 to the late Charles William Lumsden and Kathleen Sullivan Lumsden. He is survived by his wife Phyllis L. Lumsden of Bath, NC (high school friends and married in 1984); daughter Sharon Leavell and her husband Dennis Chandan of Mt. Airy, MD; two sons Wesley Lumsden of Hagerstown, MD, William Funk and his wife Debbie Palonis of Sebring, FL; sister Alicia Garver and her husband Bruce Garver of Lancaster, CA; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Ken attended Northwood High School in MD and graduated from Beverly Hills High School in CA. Ken had lots of professions. He served his country in the United States Navy, Owner of Artistic Auto Body of 20 years (Graphic Designer & Painter for show cars), Beltsville Signs and Lettering, Union Glazier, and lastly a bus driver for Montgomery County School System in MD. He had many hobbies and talents to include street rods, dancing (swing & ball room), drawing, painting, and playing percussion in the praise band at the Bath United Methodist Church. Ken is remembered most by his love of teaching his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces how to swim, draw, play card games, fix cars and home renovations. He thoroughly enjoyed taking them to the movies and playing tour guide in DC to all family members.
A celebration of life memorial will be held for family and friends at the Bath United Methodist Church on April 14 at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made in his name to Bath United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 281, Bath, NC 27808.
