Larry Eugene Riegel

Larry Eugene Riegel

Larry Eugene Riegel, Past Master, age 80, a resident of Washington, NC passed away at his home on Friday, May 12, 2023.

Larry was born in Garden City, Kansas on February 1, 1943. The late Mrs. Helen Atterbury and Franklin Riegel raised an ornery, cantankerous son who went on to accomplish a great many things.

Larry could build or fix anything. Better yet, he could sit and tell you just how to fix it even if you already knew how. He is noted for becoming one of the first ASE certified mechanics. From building a house to fixing a lawnmower, it seemed there was nothing he couldn’t do; except maybe get his phone or hearing aid to work right. He built and raced cars, taught high school auto mechanics, and was even a long-haul truck driver for a while. But for all his accomplishments, there was nothing he liked to brag about more than his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren and all that they were, all that they did, and who they were becoming.

He loved good Southern BBQ, was always right (all you had to do was ask him), loved his family and was a proud member of the Freemasons; most recently from Orr Masonic Lodge #104 in Washington, NC., and the York Rite Masons. Larry will be missed by a great many people.

Larry is survived by his loving wife; Norma Jean Riegel, daughter and son-in-law; Deborah and Ron McQueen, stepdaughter; Julia Blackwell, son and daughter-in-law Franklin E. and Wendy Riegel, son; Edward R. Riegel, son; Ronald Riegel, stepson and stepdaughter-in-law; Norman and Kim Hyatt, sister; Patsy Reedy, two brothers; Joseph and Dean Riegel, 17 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Along with his mother and dad, Larry is preceded in death by his sister Rae Stevens.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to honor Larry to the Shriners Hospitals for Children that may be made directly through their website at donate.lovetotherescue.org

Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service is honored to be assisting the Riegel family.
