Martha Cara Robbins, of Yeatesville, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
The funeral service will be held Saturday at 11:00 at Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ. Visitation will be held Friday 6:00 to 8:00 at Joseph B. Paul Funeral Services in Washington. Private interment will be held at a later date.
Martha was born February 22, 1953 in Washington, NC to William Samuel Robbins, Sr. and Edna Davenport Robbins. Martha grew up in Yeatesville and graduated from Pantego High School in 1971, and East Carolina University in 1975. She taught kindergarten for 31 years in Pinetown and Bath Elementary Schools. Martha loved every child she taught and they loved her. Wherever she went, she ran into former students who expressed fond memories of their year in her class.
Martha was a faithful member of Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ her entire life and played the piano for services there. She was well known for leading VBS in “Walking in the Jungle”, a favorite of all the children. Martha was a giver. She gave of herself to so many people – to her personal and church families, to her friends and their families, and to children, especially her kindergarteners. Like her mother, Ms. Edna, she shared food and “pocket change” to people special to her. She shared her special talents including her unmistakable peppy style of playing piano. Martha had a genuine love for all.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Sammy Robbins.
She is survived by her sister, Janice R. Calfee and husband Robbie, sister-in-law, Eunice Robbins, nieces and nephews: Angela R. Sawyer, Sam Robbins III, Amanda C. Fleming and Stephen Calfee; great nieces and nephews: Braxton Sawyer, Samantha Sawyer, Ashley Sawyer, Bailey Cara Fleming, Landon Fleming and Collins Calfee.
