Matthew โ€œConwayโ€ Potter passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday
January 7, 2023. Conway was born to John Nathaniel Potter, Sr and Veda Kirk Potter on
December 25, 1967. He was the grandson of Mack and Tinnie Potter and Wesley A. Kirk and
Gladys Tate Kirk. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Conway is survived by his loving wife of twenty-six years: Amy Credle Potter; a daughter: Emma
Joyce Potter; a son: Jacob Nathaniel Potter; his mother Veda Kirk Potter; two brothers: John
Potter, Jr. (Laura Lee), Michael Potter; a sister: Jeannie Potter Huber (Joe) and many nieces,
nephews and cousins.

Conway loved God and his family. His life was a testimony to what faith can do, having
overcome many medical obstacles since a hunting accident in 1985. He was humble and loving
to everyone he met, and a witness for God at all times. His gentle spirit and quiet ways spoke
volumes, yet his sense of humor was always present. He loved the outdoors -especially the
creeks and rivers that he grew up enjoying. For many years, Conway enjoyed meeting the
boaters and fishermen who would visit his marina on North Creek. He enjoyed hosting fishing
tournaments at the marina and often shared his testimony during the events. He was simply a
remarkable person and loved by many. His presence here will be missed but there is comfort in
knowing that Conway was welcomed into Heaven and given complete healing there.

A funeral service will be held at The River Church in Bath on Saturday January 14, 2023 at 11:00am. The burial will follow at Ryder Hill Cemetery at Pamlico Beach.
The family will receive friends at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service on Friday January 13, 2023,
from 6:00-8:00pm and at other times at the home of John and Laura Lee Potter at 125 Pamlico
Riverside Drive, Belhaven. The family would like to thank Community Home Care and Hospice
for the kindness and compassion shown to Conway.

Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service is proud to assist the Potter family in their time of need.

Amy Tammy told me tonight. Tears in my eyes he is such a Christ- like gentleman. What an inspiration, not only his faith but the way he handled tasks around the Marina. I was amazed the first time I saw him moving down the dock. I told Trish, LOOK AT HIM!! We never stopped being impressed by his tenacity. Bless you and your children and family.

    Carl & Hope Wilkins says:
It is with a heavy heart I write for the loss of a beloved family member and friend to many, but with a joyful spirit for the homegoing of a dear and worthy Saint of God! World, take note of this Godly young man gone way too soon. Comfort our selfish hearts, that are bound to him in loves loss. His life is a testimony of his love for Jesus Christ and his legacy will live in the testimony of others about him. As a Christian myself, I look upon Conway's life as a valuable learning tool and lesson on how to love and live for Christ. Oh, if only the world could be filled with men like him, but they are so very rare these days. To his wife and children, his mother and all who loved him, my prayers for peace, comfort and strength are with you today and in the coming days. Thank you, Conway, for having the courage to be that light on a hill that no one could extinguish. Well done, thou good and faithful servant! With sincerest love, Carl & Hope Wilkins

    James H. Dautremont says:
Golly, my heart aches. Brother Conway was always an inspiration to me -- ever since we first met him. When I would start to feel sorry for myself because of my old-age aches, I would say to myself, "If Conway can take his health challenges, then I ought to be able to cope with my relatively trivial issues." Now Conway is no longer with us in body; but his spirit lives on within me for the rest of my life.

    Chris and Julie Moye says:
Conway was such a great fellow and utterly optimistic. He was immediately a friend to people who met him. His love for his family was apparent in everything he did and said. We met him when my husband Chris worked on his house and we kept a boat at the marina for that year. He was truly one of the nicest people we have ever met before or since. His passing is a loss for the entire community. We wish the family peace and love. Sincerely, Julie and Chris Moye, Kitty Hawk
