She was born on October 22, 1955 to Arthur and Joan (Holland) Ball. Melanie worked hard, sometimes three jobs at once, to provide for her family. Throughout her career she managed several hair salons, staffing services and most recently worked for N.C. Works.
A family proclaimed “Helicopter Granny”, Melanie was a proud and loving grandmother. Her love was her family, but her passion was horses. Since the age of 3, Melanie began to ride and care for the majestic animals. She then began to train and teach lessons to others. Her crowning achievement was becoming a North Carolina State Horse Judge.
Melanie is survived by her mother: Joan Ball; daughter and son in law: Amber and Randy Lathan; Son and daughter in law, Bradford and Jordan Smith; six granddaughters: Lilly Smith, Ella Smith, McKayla Waters, Mariah Waters, Bethany Waters and Bryce Waters; and her brother: Arthur Louis Ball, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her father Arthur Louis Ball, Sr.
