Before you see it on Facebook -as she would often say- Mrs. Melinda Snider Hazelwood, 54, passed away at her home Wednesday, September 28.

A celebration of life service is being held on Saturday, October 1, at 2:00pm, at Bath Harbor Marina.

She was born to David Snider and the late Sharon Patricia Snider in Mercer County, West Virginia on February 8. 1968, in the town of Bluefield.

Along with her father, Melinda is survived by her husband: Kevin Hazelwood; two daughters: Nicky McCutcheon and husband Kevin of Pinetown, NC, Amanda Stewart and husband Caleb of Cary, NC; two grandsons: Maddox Stewart and Camden McCutcheon, three granddaughters: Mackenzie McCutcheon, Olivia and Hazel Stewart.

Melinda was born and raised in West Virginia, but she had a fine time bouncing around the east coast, at times living in Virginia Beach and Pittsburg before heading south and settling in Bath, NC.

Though she settled in the south she would not hesitate to head back to West Virginia, especially under the promise of getting a taste of strawberry pie from Shoney’s. She loved road trips, and eating, so, many of her road trips involved a quest for some new dish or for some exciting new sampling from the hottest up-and-coming chef.

She loved her farm. And goats. She would burn three tanks of gas at the prospect of a free goat. And if she couldn’t get an animal for free she would go to auctions and try to win them.

She was a warm, bright spirit overflowing with humor and joy and that same thing spilled over into the lives of her children and grandkids. She would read obituaries daily just to “make sure she wasn’t in them”. She also listened to her police scanner religiously, which sometimes led her back to the obituaries anyway.

She loved her family and her animals, and they will in turn miss her greatly. She always put them before herself.

Melinda’s untimely and unexpected passing has left the family with many emotional and financial hurdles. Any donation would help and can be made by CLICKING HERE
