Robert Glenn Wetherington Sr., age 71, a resident of Grimesland, North Carolina passed away on Sunday October 22, 2023.

Robert’s interests in motorcycle riding and tinkering allowed him to embrace the freedom of the open road. Whether he was cruising along the highways or working on his beloved bike, Robert found solace and joy in these pursuits. He also had a deep appreciation for nature, finding peace and tranquility in its beauty.

Robert’s cherished memories will forever be treasured by his surviving family and friends. He leaves behind his loving wife, Kathryn Arnold Wetherington, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. His sons, Robert Glenn Wetherington Jr. (Gennia) and Jeremy Scott Wetherington (Jennifer), were a source of pride and joy in his life. Robert was also blessed with nine grandchildren Cameron, Latham, Lily Kathryn, Brian, Ashley, Tanner, Teagan, Gabriel, and Reagan who brought immense happiness to his heart. Additionally, his great-grandchildren Payton, Gemma, Everest, and Haven added an extra sparkle to his days.

Robert has four siblings that he dearly loved; Joan W. Miller (Milton) and Rhonda W. Stilley (Ronald) of Vanceboro; Michael Wetherington (Shirley) of New Bern, and Ronnie Wetherington (Pam) of Mount. Gilead. He was blessed through, his siblings, to have a close relationship with his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Also, those who had a great impact on his life were, Carol Sheppard of Washington and Hope Cuthrell of New Bern.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Gracie Alene Wetherington, and his father, William Ronald Wetherington. Their memories will forever live on in his heart.

A memorial service will be held to honor and celebrate Robert’s life. The service will take place on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the First Free Will Baptist Church located at 901 N Bonner St, Washington, NC 27889. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, followed by the service from 2:00pm to 3:00pm.

During this difficult time, Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service of Washington, NC is honored to serve the Wetherington family and provide support and comfort.

It was a terrible shock to hear about Robert's tragedy. I've known him since he was a young boy. By marriage, we had the same Aunt (Aunt Leona). Later years we started work for Texasgulf (PCS PHOSPHATE) where we became VERY GOOD FRIENDS!! When getting this news, I started passing it on to others. My comments were, if you ever knew Robert, he was an INSTANT FRIEND !! As young brothers, Robert and I had our share of fights and disagreements, which I assume was typical. If our Dad had to intervene, he would often make us sit in the living room and forbid us to leave until we hugged each other. No one stood by to ensure that we hugged, but we always did. Heck! Who wants to waste a day sitting inside? I wish that I could give him a big hug now. Robert's health dealt him a heavy blow in the last few years and he wasn't quite the same, but he put his best foot forward in an effort to keep on "keepin on". His spirit took a hit, but it wasn't broken. Robert was a good brother throughout our lives and a good man. I will definitely miss him a lot.
