Rodney Paul Godley, husband, father, and grandfather, took his final flight on December 17, 2023, at the age of 77. Born on January 30, 1946, in Washington, NC, Rodney lived a life filled with adventure and passion.

From his early days as a crop-duster to his time spent farming, Rodney had a deep connection with the land. But it was his love for aviation that truly soared. As a teenager, he obtained his pilot’s license and embarked on a remarkable 60-year journey in the skies. His dedication to flying took him far and wide, always seeking out aviation equipment and parts wherever he went.

Rodney was a member of the Beaver Dam Church of Christ, St Clair’s Church of Christ, and the Federal Aviation Association. He proudly graduated from Bath High School and attended Chowan College, leaving behind a legacy of determination and intellect.

In his journey through life, Rodney was preceded in death by his father Rupert Otwell Godley, mother Olive Singleton Godley, son Rodney Paul Godley Jr., wife Katherine S. Godley, and his son-in-law Roger Woolard. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife Gail, and his children Lisa Godley Lewis and husband Paul Lewis, Cindy Godley Woolard, Tiffany Godley Smith and husband Glenn Smith, along with Jonathan Cottingham. He had two siblings: a sister Janice Chesson, her husband Henton, a brother Gary Godley and his wife Thelma.

Rodney’s grandchildren were a source of endless joy and pride. He leaves behind four granddaughters, Addison Smith, Elizabeth Woolard, Anna Kate Lewis, and Jayden Cottingham, as well as eight grandsons, Ryan Godley, Mason Smith, J.C. Woolard, Carter Lewis, Cameron Lewis, Mason Cottingham, Cole Cottingham, and Dean Cottingham; there is also numerous nieces and nephews. Gail’s children: Tonita (Everette) Turcotte, Susan Boyd (John) Guill, and Gail’s son David Carrow, along with Gail’s grandson Alex Carrow and granddaughters Andrea and Leah Guill, and Rebecca Carrow, were all dear to Rodney’s heart.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Rodney’s life at the visitation on Saturday, December 23, 2023, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at Pinetown Missionary Baptist Church (263 Long Ridge Rd, Pinetown, NC). A service will follow from 3:00 to 4:00 PM, officiated by Shaun Cooper.

To honor Rodney’s spirit, honorary pallbearers include Mason Smith, Carter and Cameron Lewis, J.C. Woolard, and Ryan Godley. Their presence will pay tribute to the man who lived a life full of laughter and love.

Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service is honored to assist the Godley family.
