Sandra “Sandy” Lamm Mayo

Sandra “Sandy” Lamm Mayo, 59, a resident of Grimesland, NC died Thursday, May 18, 2023, due to injuries stemming from an automobile accident.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 3:00pm. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm at the same location.

Sandy was born in Onslow County, NC on December 5, 1963 to Shelby “Jean” Lamm and the late Joseph “Mickey” Lamm. Sandy had two children (Trey and Tracey) with her husband of more than forty years, Stanley Mayo. Her favorite thing was being home with her husband and animals. Sandy had two dogs: Odie and Sissy; two cats: Chester and Mikey, and many chickens -her favorite being Fluffy Butt, who still holds a place as the background on her phone.

Occasionally Sandy could be found out and about with Cindy, Diane, and Doris. They were her best friends for decades and the four of them were known as “The Breakfast Club”.

Sandy’s favorite time of year was the holidays. She loved cooking for family and friends on Thanksgiving but loved Christmas even more. She loved decorating the house for the Christmas holidays, including a tree for every room. She loved gardening and the flowers she grew provided splashes of color to brighten even the grayest, dullest days.

Sandy was a breast cancer survivor and had been in remission for many years prior to her unexpected passing. Sandy is preceded in death by her father Joseph “Mickey” Lamm. She is survived by husband, Chester “Stanley” Mayo Jr.; mother, Shelby “Jean” Lamm; brother Joseph “Randy” Lamm; son Chester “Trey” Stanley Mayo III and wife Brittany Mayo; daughter Tracey Tennille Mayo; five grandchildren Shelby, Chase, Kylie, Saleen, and Elyza.

Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service is honored to be serving the Mayo family.

    Diane. M. (Lilly) Jackson says:
It's not a dream... It's not a joke. You're really gone and I just can't believe it. Our "Breakfast Club Girls" will always have a missing link. We'll miss ur beautiful smile, your contagious laugh and ur loving soul. There are soo many happy memories, too many 2 count. Ur laughter will no longer echo in person, but we all will remember how u would bust out in a laugh and ur beautiful blue eyes would light up so bright! May u sing with the Angels and hold a place 4 all who loved u Sandy. U left a BIG HOLE in our hearts. A hole that no one else can fill. To: Stanley, Trey, Tracy and all the grandchildren: May u always keep her memory alive by always remembering how she touched ur lives and made u smile and remember how much she loved each and every 1 of y'all. U all were her life. I love u my dear friend, my sister; not by blood but by heart.

Kathy Goodwin Mata Class of 1982 says:
Sandy and I knew each other for many decades. She was in my class of 1982, along with a lot of our classmates who have lit candles here. We both were big collectors of all kinds of things and memorabilia, especially Elvis! Both of us had been collecting Elvis memorabilia for 35-40 years. When I moved and had to downsize my many collections, I called her and asked her if she wanted my Elvis collection. She was tickled to add to her enormous collection. She is up there where he is now and I hope he sings to her every night. Many prayers for her family who she was totally devoted to. No, it's not fair at all and she should be here to watch her children and grandchildren flourish. She'll still watch everything and her spirit will always live on for those that loved her. Nobody knows the time or day when we ascend to Heaven. She will be enjoying her reward in Heaven for a life well-lived. So long sweet girlie. I'll look you up when I get there!

I remember Sandy from our summers at the Moose Lodge pool long ago. She was always so vibrant and fun. I haven't seen her in a very long time, but I imagine she lived her life with a lot of spunk. I am so very sorry she was taken from her family and pray God will surround you with comfort as you begin the difficult journey of continuing on without her.
