Sylvia Jean Carrow, 77, a resident of Aurora, NC, passed away on Sunday, May 14 at ECU Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20 at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service at noon, with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00pm at the same location. The burial will proceed afterward at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington, NC. All will be officiated by David Linton.
She was born in Beaufort County on March 28, 1946, to the late Furney Warren and Ruby Irene Boyd. Along with her parents Sylvia was preceded in death by four brothers: Furney Warren Mitchell, Owen Glen Warren, Hassell Ray Warren, J.R. Alligood; three sisters: Evelyn A Wallace, Sallie Alligood Woolard, Geneva Dean Warren, and fifteen nephews and nieces.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years: Jimmie S. Carrow; two daughters: Penny Dee Carrow, Tara Jean Carrow and partner Jennifer Lynne Burch; and one sister: Daphine Singleton.
If Sylvia was in a room, then that room was brimming with warmth and laughter. If she and her twin sister were in a room together, that room was in danger of having its walls and roof blown outward and upward with the force of their laughter. They had a special bond shared -one shared only by twins- and sometimes all it took was a shared glance to have them howling.
She was a loving mother and a devoted wife, steadfast; everything she did she was in it for the long haul, and wound up doing it for decades. Five decades of marriage, five decades as a member of Edward Christian Church, and over a decade spent working at Aurora Medical Center before retiring.
She was a proud Airforce and UNC mom. She liked going and doing and being in the mix. She was a “mom-taxi” for years, carrying her children all over the state to compete in various sporting events. She also loved spending time in her garden, especially if that time included telling her husband what and where to plant.
Sylvia was a bright light, and her warmth was felt by anyone who crossed her path. She was loved fiercely, and she will be missed.
