Thomas Eugene “Gene” Williams
Thomas Eugene “Gene” Williams, age 80, of 2425 Cayton Rd, Chocowinity, passed away Friday June 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
Thomas was born in April 1,1937 in Wayne County to the late Abram and Nellie Ross Williams. Thomas served in the Army from 1955 to 1957 and enjoyed talking about his travels to Germany and time spent with fellow army “buddies”. He married Judy Vandenburg October 4,1962, whom preceded him in death in 1998. They settled down in Winterville, NC where they raised their daughters. Thomas owned and operated Williams Landscaping for many years until his retirement in 1993. He and Judy then moved to Chocowinity where he spent his time enjoying the outdoors, planting a garden, cutting grass and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing when time allowed. Thomas was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his three daughters: Rhonda Williams Huerta, Kimberly Williams Trejo and husband Armando and Crystal Williams Askew and husband Brandon; seven grandchildren: Tyler Strickland, Santana Huerta and wife Diana, Jerrica Huerta, Miguel Renteria, Nikolas Renteria, Alexia Trejo and Erika Trejo. Brothers: Grady Williams, Larry Williams and Cecil Williams; three sisters: Hilda Moore, Nancy Miller and Elizabeth “Tootie” Williams and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 18, 2017 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Faith Free Will Baptist Church 641 River Rd Washington, NC. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, June 19, 2017 at Faith Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Pinewood Memorial Park in Greenville, NC
The family will receive family and friends at the home located 2425 Cayton Rd Chocowinity, NC
