Zelda Woolard, 85, was a life-long resident of Washington, NC and passed away at her home Wednesday, December 7, 2022 surrounded by those that loved her most.

No services have been scheduled at this time, but visitors are welcome to stop by the family home on Lizzard Slip.

She was born on September 14, 1937 to the late Beverly and Hazel Alligood. Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Dewey, her brother Preston Alligood, and a great-nephew Colby Williamson.

She is survived by her nephew Britt Alligood, and his children: Lane and Kasey Alligood; her niece Brooke Williamson, and her children: Rylan and Landon Williamson.

Zelda and Dewey may never have had children of their own, but their love for Britt and Brooke and their children was seamless; it was easy and joyful and never felt any different than the boundless love that one would expect from a parent, or a grandparent.

Ms. Zelda’s passing is not one to be mourned. Make no mistake -she lived a full life. A fun, vibrant, social life. Her and Dewey’s marriage was one of exuberance and laughter and dancing. They were a packaged deal, and outside of work they did everything together for over five decades. Their language of love was quality time; she would even accompany him on small little trips here and there -it didn’t really seem to matter as long as they were doing it together.

She was social and engaged and loved nothing more than flitting about and talking with the contingent of older folks that frequented the local Bojangles.

And she loved sending out cards. Birthday cards. Hundreds per year. If she even had an inkling as to what your birthday was, you would get a card from her, and as soon as you opened the mailbox you’d know it was from her. Her penmanship was so distinct you could identify it from across the street.

She also had some amazing caregivers who, by the end, could also have been called family as well. Wilma, Theresa, Jeni and Brenda were loyal and helpful and patient and kind, and they did what they could to help whenever it was needed and the gratitude felt towards them is without end.

Mrs. Woolard was a woman who thought of and cared about everyone all of the time. She loved her family and her church. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to the Beaver Dam Church of Christ by CLICKING HERE

Zelda was a positive woman and a bright spirit who was loved and will be missed by many.

Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service is honored to assist the Woolard family.

Zelda was truly one of my favorite "Southern Belles" of all times. She always lite up the room with her beautiful smile, her personality, and her arms were always opened wide for a big ol' hug. Praying for you both Britt and Brooke as well as your families. May God ease your pain from your loss in the days ahead.
